The Wulong Mountain Quest (WMQ) is the most prestigious adventure race in China and is inspiring to be the premier race in Asia and beyond. In 2008 the race will be held for the sixth time in Wulong County, southern China. Wulong is an area of outstanding beauty with limestone mountains, the deep Wulong river gorge and the high plateau of the Fairy Meadow National Forrest Park. All these areas and many more, will be traversed by the race course.
To make the race more appealing to international teams, sponsors have increased the price purse by 50%. For 2008, a total prize purse of 150,000 US $ is now up for grabs. The format of the race is a three day stage race, teams of 4, with daily racing time of between 6 and 9 hours. A short prologue will be held the day before the race. Nights will be spent in a comfortable race hotel. The race is limited to 25 teams on a first come basis. The 2007 edition was a tremendous success with 15 international and 9 Chinese teams battling it out in the mountains of Wulong. In the end, Team Nike from the USA prevailed over Team Adventure Sport NZ (New Zealand) and Team NZ Cavaliers (New Zealand). After feedback from many athletes, we have decided on one major rule change for 2008: Every team now has to include at least on female athlete. We hope this will make the forthcoming race fairer to all teams as well as giving more female athletes the opportunity to be involved in the sport. We have also secured a new sponsor for apparel and signage. Ozark is the leading Chinese equipment company and has outfitted many Everest expeditions. Over the past 10 years, they have been a strong supporter of outdoor sports in China. They will not only provide staff and athletes with race apparel but also provide us with other promotional support. |
